Care Instructions For American Blossom Linens

Sheets and Duvets

Sheets and Duvets

These sheets get softer and better with time.

Machine wash cold with like colors. Do not use bleach. Tumble dry on low and remove promptly.  Warm iron if needed.

Helpful Tips

  • We suggest you wash your sheets before your first use to soften them even more than they are when they arrive.
  • Sheets need to circulate to get clean so never cram them in the washer. If your washer has an agitator in the middle, don’t wrap the sheets around it tightly. This can cause them to wrinkle or tear.
  • Choose a liquid detergent for the best results.
  • Fabric softener, dryer balls or dryer sheets are a personal choice. We recommend an environmentally friendly one.
  • We suggest washing linens in cold water. Consumer Reports’ past tests found detergents have gotten much better at putting enzymes to work in removing dirt and stains at lower water temperatures, and are less effective at higher temperatures.

  • Manufacturers have been lowering wash temperatures over the years to meet the Department of Energy’s standards for hot water use.

Wrinkles

Wrinkles

Our American Blossom pure finish is a special manufacturing formula developed for us that gives our sheets a soft, crisp, fresh feel and is environmentally friendly, pure and chemical free.  Because of they are made from 100% USA Organic cotton they will naturally wrinkle. (See more about wrinkle free fabric) They will wrinkle less and less with every wash and use. To minimize wrinkles, shake out the bedding between washing and drying. If possible, fill your dryer only halfway to prevent twisted bedding and to allow the fabric to fluff.  It’s best to tumble dry sheets on low heat for the shortest time possible (this could take some trial and error to get right). Try taking the bedding out of the dryer a few minutes before the cycle ends when they are still a bit damp and make your bed immediately and smooth away the wrinkles.  You can also try to spritz a small amount of water using a spray bottle on the sheets on the bed and smooth out the wrinkles. As the fabric dries the wrinkles will naturally ease. If you love ironing, like some of us do, feel free to iron your sheets.

Shrinkage

Shrinkage

Our fabric goes through a mechanical process to reduce shrinkage and soften it, but it may shrink slightly when it is washed the first time. In order to ensure that your sheets will generously fit your bed we have made them longer and wider than other brands.

Tips to Keep Your Towels Softer Longer

  • Reduce the amount of detergent that you use in each load as excessive detergent leaves residue in towel fibers and causes them to feel scratchy.
  • Don't overcrowd your washer.
  • Replace commercial fabric softeners with distilled white vinegar to combat residue that reduces absorbency.
  • Add a few wool dryer balls and a lower heat setting in the dryer to keep towels fluffy.
  • Install a water-softening system if you have hard water.

Machine wash warm with like colors, delicate cycle, do not bleach, tumble dry, warm, remove from dryer immediately.

In addition to following the manufacturers care instructions, we recommend adding some of these tips to your care regimen to combat shedding:

  • Add ¼ cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle of your wash to help battle the build up of lint
  • Avoid fabric softener and detergents with softener additives
  • Wash in water that is cold or, when necessary, merely warm
  • Run on a shorter cycle, less agitation during the washing process will lessen shedding overall
  • Empty the lint catcher several times throughout the dry cycle to allow as much lint to escape as possible
  • Attract lint away from the fabric by adding a piece of corduroy or dryer balls
  • Use an electric shaver if you find loose fibers or pilling

  • Machine wash cold, separately, on a gentle cycle.
  • A gentle soap designed for wool is recommended.
  • Line dry taking care to rotate the blanket to prevent stretching.
  • Do not Iron.
  • Do not use fabric softener, as it can increase pilling.
  • Do not bleach.

For Moth prevention it’s best to brush the blanket clean – or, if soiled, clean them following the instructions above- and store them in airtight container when not in use for extended periods. Cedar and herbal products offer limited protection, and only when the fragrance is very strong.

Pilling is caused by wool fibers becoming intertwined on the surface of the blanket as a result of wear or abrasion, even with gentle use. The finer the wool, the more susceptible it is to pilling. A lint brush or nylon-bristled garment brush are the most effective way to remove pills. Brush in the same direction, along the length of the blanket. Regular, gentle brushing can prevent most pilling.

Wool Dryer Balls

Wool Dryer Balls

Static comes from the fabrics being used and drying time. Wool is atmospheric, meaning it can absorb and disperse moisture, which also means it cannot hold the electric charge that causes static. Manmade fibers like polyester and rayon have more static and the longer they dry the more static they will create. Wool Dryer Balls never reduce static, they lower drying times which will reduce static. It is recommended that you reduce drying times and use lower heat settings and wash natural fibers separately from manmade fibers to help reduce static.

Remove the wool from the cover. Machine wash cover on gentle cycle in cold water and line dry or spot treat only.

While you wash the outer cover, lay the wool in the sun for a few minutes. The sun will evaporate any moisture on the wool helping to clean the wool. Never put the wool in the washing machine.

Spot cleaning is recommended for quick cleaning. Occasionally refresh in natural air & sunlight. Do not machine wash. For deep cleaning: hand wash in tub of cool water with wool wash. Squeeze by hand. Do not wring or twist. Rinse twice. Air-dry flat not on direct heat source (heat will cause shrinkage)

Tips for burning your candles:

Tips for burning your candles:

  • Allow your candle to burn to the edges the first time you light the candle; this could take 2+ hours
  • Always allow the melt pool to reach the edges of the glass for a better burning candle experience
  • Keep the wick trimmed to 1/4" at all times
  • Keep away from Children
  • Always burn on fire resistant surfaces
  • Never leave your candle unattended
  • Never burn more than 4 hours at a time
  • Never move a burning candle

Note: Our candles are hand poured using 100% soy wax so you might see frosting or spotting; this is totally normal. This is due to temperature changes during shipment and will not affect the performance of your candle.
